I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Dennis McWilliams!
Dennis was one of the first students to enthusiastically embrace
lithography during my first year at UW. He came from an unassuming
background and developed into one of the driving forces in our program.
I do believe Dennis ate and slept printmaking.
Dennis was also one of the students who made my early teaching
experience so memorable with his enthusiasm and labor when I was trying
to establish a litho program within the Department. He definitely was a
founding member of the so-called Madison Mafia of the Print.
Over the years, after Dennis left Madison for Chicago and eventually
Janesville, we lost contact, but ever so often he would show up at an
art fair or event and we would rehash old times.
I can't think of my initial years with the print program at UW without
thinking of Dennis. He was a wonderful and unique personality who will
be surely missed.
